PAVE’s 2nd Annual Award Honoring Young Professionals
The Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE) presented its 2008 Rising Star Award to Rachel Zsembery, AIA, LEED AP, associate, Bergmeyer Associates Inc. The award presentation took place during the 12th Annual PAVE Gala on Wednesday, Dec. 10 in New York City.

In keeping with the Planning and Visual Education Partnership’s (PAVE) mission of nurturing and encouraging young talented individuals to ensure the future of the retail design and visual industry, PAVE developed this award to recognize the achievements of individuals who have demonstrated talent, vision, and implementation in the retail environment
Victor Johnson, PAVE’s 2007 Rising Star Award Winner, White House Black Market; Rachel Zsembery, Bergmeyer Associates Inc.; Pamela De Blanc, MGM MIRGAGE Retail; and Matthew Grubar, Elie Tahari Ltd.

The three finalists for the 2008 Award were:

Pamela De Blanc
visual merchandise manager
MGM MIRAGE Retail

Matthew Grubar
director, visual merchandising
Elie Tahari Ltd

Rachel Zsembery
AIA, LEED AP, associate
Bergmeyer Associates Inc.

When asked where she finds her design inspiration, 2008 winner Rachel Zsembery said, “One thing that first attracted me to Bergmeyer, and one thing that sets us apart from many designers in the industry, is that we don’t have a signature style. I find my inspiration for my designs in the client, which is why I enjoy working with retail clients, who often have a rich history and an interesting story. Incorporating their story into the design of the project is what helps to create meaning for their customers, so they feel they are part of the culture of the retailer, and not just buying a commodity. This brand identity which is developed is then further enriched by understanding the local community into which each store will be entering. By embracing regional differences and needs, a national retailer can further enhance their brand identity and cement their place within a community.”
